About Ignite Community Services
Ignite Community Services originated as a LBT women’s meet up group called Ignite Women South Florida. Our purpose was to build community after we experienced the closure of several women centered spaces over a few year time period. Over a year and a half of mixers and meet ups, fundraising events to benefit local orgs, and a multitude of collaborations, we had the amazing opportunity to become a 501c3 non-profit. Ignite Community Services was born, not only to serve LBT women, but those groups within the LGBTQ spectrum that are traditionally sidelined and marginalized.
Our mission is “To ignite the spark to empower and elevate LGBTQ+ people to equity through activism, advocacy, and education with a focus on transgender and non-binary people, communities of color, and women.” Our goal is to foster community and build ongoing relationships.
In early early 2018, we were approached by Gilda’s Club to help find a way to get more LBT women involved in their support groups and services. Their beautiful property, full of gardens and peacocks, seemed like the perfect place to welcome women in the community to dance and feel glamorous for an evening. On November 2, 2018 we held our first annual Peacock Ball at the beautiful and historic Gilda’s Club South Florida mansion. 125 individuals purchased tickets for the event where they were met with delicious food and drink, magical entertainment, live music and dancing, and a beautiful outdoor atmosphere to celebrate building community and the amazing work Gilda’s Club. That night we raised over $1000 to benefit the organization, and a slew of new relationships with women in the community who have continued to attend our events over the past year.
